Lindsay Terry

Owner and Teacher

Lindsay holds two teaching credentials and has worked with children aged 5-18 for the last 30+ years. During 15 of those years, she served as a classroom teacher with a focus on community and progress over competition and perfection. After leaving the classroom, Lindsay decided to focus on art education by teaching clay hand building at a visual arts non-profit. During her tenure at the arts center, she also wrote a process-based art curriculum for primary teachers and led professional development workshops for school districts. In addition, Lindsay has a broad skill-set due to experience as a professional event planner, bike safety educator and office manager.

Lindsay is also a mother of 3 adult children and a strong believer that every young person can thrive with at least one trusted adult in their corner. While raising her children, Lindsay volunteered in a variety of capacities including Girl Scouts leader (8 years), assistant director for theater program (3 years), community food distribution (Tuesday Table - 2 years) and more.

All that being said, whatever arts experience you’re looking for, Lindsay can make it a reality combing her various professional skills and experience.

History of Secret Spot Amsterdam

Third Space and beyond.

The original Secret Spot started in Davis, California as a place for local artists who felt disconnected from the more established gallery scene. Its three founders endeavored to provide a safe space for artists with a variety of perspectives and art mediums to show their art in a gallery space. Tony, HG and Stephanie (the founders) hosted monthly gallery shows with rotating featured artists, special events and workshops. One of the highlights of Secret Spot was the art lounge available for artists to hang out, create art, utilize art supplies and just be themselves. According to an article by The Dirt (a local Davis publication), HG described Secret Spot as “Having a legit spot that’s right downtown, creating a space that is accessible to anyone who is interested… …There were no opportunities for odd, out-there kinds of stuff. It’s amazing that we’re getting to create a space where that is celebrated and visible.”

The guiding concept and mission of Secret Spot is a third space, outside of home and work, where artists can be comfortable to create art. Recently, I spoke to HG who said it was always their intention to inspire more Secret Spots around the world and that’s how Secret Spot Amsterdam came to be. In addition to our educational focus, our goal is to open a brick-and-mortar location to host gallery shows and house visiting artists.

We adopted the Secret Spot’s philosophy and take it one stop further. Secret Spot Amsterdam is without a solid, brick and mortar home. It serves as a welcoming place for all people to explore the artist within. No experience or special training necessary. We welcome everyone!
